It’s a Short Thing

“The Lord is coming back some day – It's a Sure Thing!” These words are part of a song I wrote that our family put on our latest project, “What Are You Waiting For!” Our oldest daughter Rachel (who will be 19 years old in July) has a four-year-old sweetheart named Cason who mistakenly sings “It's a Short Thing.” At least I thought it was a mistake…
In II Timothy Chapter 4, Paul is giving a charge to Timothy. Verse 8 contains these words that seemed to jump out at me one day, “Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day and not to me only, but unto all them also that love His appearing.” (Emphasis mine.) I began to search my heart to see if I was longing for the return of my Saviour.
Last night, Rachel and Rebecca were at the church with their youth group. They were having a reenactment of the Last Supper, which must have been a very moving service from the emotion in Rachel's voice when she called at the conclusion. I was not aware of the activities that were taking place while I was waiting for them to “appear” in the driveway safe and sound, I only know the longing in my heart for them to get home. Watching out the window, turning on the flood lights, leaving them a message on their cell phone, looking at the clock – my actions showed that their return was very important to me… and that I was expecting it to be soon! As Christians, do we exist from day to day, preoccupied with our own “stuff,” or are we longing for His appearing? We can clearly see that the Lord's return is fast approaching – the time is short. “He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus.” Revelation 22:20
The Lord is coming back some day - It is not only a Sure Thing, I believe it is also a “Short Thing!”
till next time…

Talley Trio - Apr 05

Turn up the air conditioning and make your vacation plans; it's spring at last, and the Talleys have lots of exciting things happening......
We'd like to invite all of you to snap up the few remaining tickets for Singing In The Sun! One of gospel music's biggest annual events, Singing In The Sun brings 5-6 artists each night to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, April 20-23 for four spectacular nights of music and preaching. Held at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center, you'll enjoy special daytime events plus great concerts each evening, with a special message brought by a guest speaker. Your cohosts, The Talley Trio, will be singing Friday night. Many of gospel music's top talent will be performing, including the Greenes, the Hoppers, Tony Gore, Ivan Parker, Anthony Burger, the Perrys, and many more. A few tickets are still left, so don't wait, or you'll miss all the fun. See you at the beach.
My third solo project, I Live, is finally completed, (hallelujah) and is being processed, pasteurized, shrink-wrapped, and anything else they have to do before it gets to you. This project is a little different from my other two solo projects musically, but I'm very excited about the great songs that I feel God led me to during this recording. These songs have touched my heart especially, and I hope you feel the same after you hear them. The CDs land on our product table and arrive in stores in May. Of course, you'll find it on http://www.talleytrio.com.
Speaking of new releases, we have just completed production on two new DVDs by the Talley Trio. Live Across America shows concert footage from different locations around the country, plus a behind-the-scenes look at what life is like for a gospel group on the road. Also, DVD Praise For the Ages captures a live worship experience with the Talley Trio, featuring songs from our Praise For the Ages recording. We talked Ivan Parker into joining us on a song on this video. At least Ivan was invited. Watch for a couple of pranksters named Michael Booth and Mark Trammell, who somehow sneaked onto our videos!
Also, mark your calendar for the Talley Trio's Smoky Mountain Homecoming July 22-23, in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. The weekend will feature music by your hosts, The Talley Trio, The Booth Brothers, the Mercy's Mark Quartet, and piano maestro Anthony Burger, plus talent contests on Saturday morning. You can order your tickets while we still have them at 423-235-2916 or on http://www.talleytrio.com.
Special thanks to everyone at Woodlands United Methodist Church of Woodlands, Texas, where we spent a frigid but enjoyable Easter Sunday. Also thanks to Jan and Judy for putting up with us.
Ok, I know this has nothing to do with anything music-related, but our Tennessee Lady Vols are headed to the Final Four!! Aren't you excited?!
Sorry, I just had to let that out. Until next time-

The Georgians

In their 3 year history with Lamp Music Group this energetic male quartet has experienced an unprecedented growth. With historical links back to the full time SG quartet concert circuits of the early 60’s – the Georgians have in the unbelievably short time of only 3 ½ years since regrouping established their quartet as a major concert attraction throughout the southeastern US.
As the official quartet of Valdosta’s nationally recognized animal theme park, Wild Adventures, The Georgians have performed for virtually hundreds of thousands of park attendants in the last year. The Georgians even have their own concert pavilion which was exclusively designed for them by the theme park!
At home both on the concert stage and church platform, The Georgians are quickly becoming known for their dynamic stage presence with a variety of material ranging from 50’s era style quartet to modern quartet harmonies of today. Much of the material they are staging is original music composed by group manager, Calvin McGuyrt.
The group is a vital part of Lamp Music’s 2005 Radio Celebration Tour, and will appear at all the major Lamp promotional events this summer and NQC. They are also members of the concert group that sings for national promoters Bill Bailey, Norman Bonds, as well as respected ministers such as Johnny Minick, pastor of River of Life Church in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and Dr. Freddie Smith, pastor of Sweat Memorial Baptist Church in Waycross, Georgia and many others.
Lamp is proud of the heritage that this group represents and is excited to spotlight them this month.

My Life Is But A Weaving

I have been privileged to be close, both emotionally and physically, to my grandmother for most of my life. I was the oldest grandchild, so I pride myself in being able to say that at one time I had her all to myself!! When I was just a toddler, without suggestion from anyone in the family, I began referring to my grandmother as MeeMaw. As the other grandchildren came along the name MeeMaw stuck and that is still the name we use today for this special lady.
MeeMaw lives just two doors down my family. We are so grateful to have her close to us. She now prides herself on spoiling her great-grandchildren just as she has always done for my generation! Dana and I enjoy dropping by with our boys for awesome meals and wonderful times spent with our family...as my grandmother holds court as "queen of her castle."
Anyone who is around MeeMaw for very long knows clearly that she is a Christian and takes her faith very seriously. MeeMaw has taught Sunday School for most of her life. As a layperson she is one of the most well-learned Bible scholars I have ever been around. When MeeMaw asks you a question about your interpretation of scripture, you can guarantee that you are getting ready to hear her perspective!
Shortly after I was born, MeeMaw was widowed when my grandfather was killed in an auto accident. The sudden loss of her husband was a staggering blow to our family at the time...and yet they persevered, holding on to their faith and family. My MeeMaw was suddenly on her own. Although she missed my grandfather terribly, she learned to handle the business of her household and do so with great skill. She was then...and still is a shrewd lady who prides herself on making wise decisions and avoiding anyone's attempt at taking advantage of her.
After a dozen or so years of living alone, MeeMaw met and married another fine Christian gentleman. During their years of marriage I spent weeks at a time with them during my summer breaks from middle school, enjoying their country life and peaceful ways. Suddenly, life changed for MeeMaw again when her second husband was stricken with a debilitating stroke, leaving him with severe paralysis for the rest of his life. For the remaining years of his life, confined to his bed, my step-grandfather never fed himself a bite of food. Life was very difficult for my MeeMaw as she provided care at home for her husband. She took care of him with great love and grace as faithfully as humanly possible. She would not consider putting him in a nursing home. She believed that God would give her the strength to care for her husband and that is exactly what happened.
Upon my step-grandfather's death during my college years, MeeMaw moved to her current home to be near her family. We have been blessed to have her close to us ever since. Her skills as a homemaker are widely known and respected. She prides herself on raising her garden, cooking the best country meals known to man and creating some of the most beautiful quilts I have ever seen in my life. And guess what, she is still teaching Sunday School.
During my day flying with MeeMaw, we had time to talk about many things. We talked about current events, family and a lot about the past. MeeMaw shared stories from her childhood days about good times with members of her large family as well as the challenges of tough economic times. Once again I was reminded of MeeMaw's wisdom and faith. At one point, my MeeMaw recited to me a poem that had been given to her by a friend shortly after my grandfather had been killed. Notice I said recited. Sometimes I have trouble remembering a single phrase and MeeMaw, forty-five years my senior, could quote this poem given to her over thirty-five years ago without missing a word. Hear the comfort found in these words for someone walking through dark days...
My life is but a weaving, between my Lord and me;The question is not whether difficult days will come. They will. The question is how we respond to those tough times. Will we become jaded and bitter or will we grow in grace? Will we fight our battles within our own strength and understanding or will we learn to lean more upon God and His strength?
I cannot choose the colors, He worketh steadily;
Oft times He weaveth sorrow, and I in foolish pride,
Forget He sees the upper and I the underside;
Not until the loom is silent, and the shuttles cease to fly,
Shall God unroll the canvas, and explain the reason why;
The dark threads are as needful, in the weaver's skillful hand,
As the threads of gold and silver, in the pattern He has planned.
- Author Unknown
God is the one who is "working all things for our good." At times it is difficult to understand that scripture when we are in the midst of our pain. Now we "look through a glass darkly" but there is coming a day when we will see clearly. On that day when he unrolls the canvas of our life we will understand completely. For it is then when we will see the finished work and realize that the Father has been faithful an d true to His word all along.
If you are troubled today, I pray that you find comfort in these truths. God is faithful. Trust Him. He is at work on your behalf. His word promises us these things. And if your faith is not strong enough to stand on His word today, there are a host of Christians...my MeeMaw included...who will testify that they have found Him true to His word through the toughest of times.

The Talleys - Mar05

As I sit here writing this, it's really late at night, and I am trying to stay awake long enough to remember all of the things we've been up to lately. Where to begin.....
My third solo recording, I Live, is almost finished! I've been in the studio this week putting on the finishing touches. Four of the songs were produced by Kent Hooper, who has worked with many artists in the inspirational/contemporary field, and my dad, Roger, handled the remaining seven. I'm excited about this one, and you'll be able to get your copy in May. You can find it on our website, http://www.talleytrio.com, or pick it up in person at a Talley concert soon.
We're turning out tickets for our Smoky Mountain Homecoming left and right. However, it's not too late to grab a ticket for yourself and your family. You'll want a good seat for a weekend in the Smoky Mountains with your hosts, the Talley Trio, along with Anthony Burger, the Booth Brothers, and the Mercy's Mark Quartet (and maybe a surprise or two). Don't forget, you can also enter our Saturday talent contest, with solo and group divisions. It all happens Friday, July 22, and Saturday, July 23, in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. Don't miss it!!
The Talley Trio is working on two new DVDs/videos due for release in the very near future. One will feature songs from our newest project, Praise For the Ages, and one will be a special montage of the Talley Trio performing live all across America, with footage shot in several different locations. You'll also be able to find those on our website as soon as they're released.
I can't wait for you to hear and enjoy all the new things we have planned. Keep checking our website for updates, and of course, I'll talk to you again soon, as soon as I get some sleep!
Until next time,
Lauren Talley

Crabb Family - Mar 05

One of the first things I noticed about the Crabb Family is their genuine love for people. They are willing to go the extra mile to make someone feel special. They sincerely love and appreciate the people who support their ministry. Another thing I’ve noticed is their work ethics. They never just “show up and sing.” They do everything they can in advance to make sure each date is the best it can be. That is why I have a job.
One of my primary job responsibilities is advancing dates. Let me explain just what this means. Beginning 8 weeks out, I contact promoters of each date and establish a good working relationship. I touch base with them, make sure we have correct phone numbers to give out when people call our office for info. I have learned never to assume that something is correct. As the date grows closer, I contact them weekly. We offer to send out post cards to our mailing list in the area, or send labels to the promoter if he or she is already doing a mail out. Many promoters have mastered the importance of keeping a current mailing list. We assist with newspaper by sending out Press Releases or setting up interviews. We schedule radio interviews and send out email blasts for every date. This really is “full-time” for the Crabb Family. They don’t have a day off! I am getting weekly reports from promoters who appreciate the extra work. The Crabb Family is also averaging 90 to 95 % sell-out success. Our philosophy here in the office, and theirs on the road, is that every date deserves equal attention. From the smallest church in the hills to the Opry, there will be someone who is lost, someone who is hurting, someone who needs Jesus. It is our responsibility to do EVERYTHING we can to make sure that person finds answers. The answers aren’t in the Crabb Family, but if they are booked to sing, they are the avenues God has ordained for that particular time to present the answers. That is serious business! What I cannot comprehend is that, on rare occasions, we offend promoters by offering our assistance. Explain that one to me.
Anyway, I just thought I’d share with you the work that goes into each and every Crabb Family appearance. When you see the bus roll in know that hours of work and time have gone into making sure that things go smoothly. I challenge everyone to do your part. If you hear about a concert, tell someone or take a friend. Support Christian music in your area. Buy the tickets and the music. Most of all, spend some time on your knees. Without God, nothing will work. Ask Him to direct every step taken before and during the concert and to send souls who need encouragement. Let’s work together as a team!

God Has a Dream For You

We were blown away when Armond told us he was going to retire and give us (Jeremie, Shannon, Ian and Jason) the Imperials. We honestly didn’t know what to expect. We didn’t know if anyone would want to hear us, or if people would accept us as “The Imperials” since for the first time in 40 years there was no original member in the group. As it turns out, the response has been overwhelming! We want to say thank you to all of our supporters and fans.
How does this tell you about God? How can you relate to it? Well, you have to understand something. When we started out on our own things didn’t always go very well. Sometimes we weren’t comfortable singing with each other and we certainly weren’t comfortable managing a group. We didn’t even all have the same dreams and goals for the group. Money was extremely tight and we weren’t sure how we would make it. At times we tried to do things on our own, through our own power and of course, that never works. A few times we even considered shutting it down and moving on to other things.
But out of all the pain, heartache and even anger God brought something good. We were driven to our knees. We had to learn very quickly to put God first and us second. We had to lay down our own dreams and goals in order to focus on God. And in so doing, He has brought forth our dreams in a new way. Now our dreams and goals have changed. We are going after something completely different and much bigger than anything we could have dreamed up on our own. We are going after God! He is truly all we want. We want to please Him, sing for Him, and bring Him joy in our lives, in our singing, in our marriages, in our families. In seeking Him we have found so much more than what we might have dreamed of before. Not only have we found Him and his plans for us, we have found our true selves. We have found where we belong. We have found our voice. There is a much greater sense of His peace now. We are resting in Him and we know that He will lead us to His place for us in His time. We have watched as time and again He has provided for our families and us in miraculous ways.
What about you? What has God called you to do? As our story proves, it may not be easy – things may not just fall into your lap in a perfect way. Know that God has a plan for you and it is much better than anything you can dream up on your own. Your own dreams and ideas of success may get in your own way! Lay your dreams before Him and let Him reveal His plans for your life and ministry. He does have something for you to do and He has a dream, a plan for you that fits you perfectly. Be sure to seek Him with all of your heart and then work with Him as He shows you where you belong and as He gives you your voice. Not only will you find Him; you’ll find His dream for you as well. “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.” Jeremiah 29:11
God Bless,
The Imperials
