I know I know, better late than never..right? Well as it turns out the big move has happened. For the past three weeks all the guys have been busy getting their households packed and ready as well as the office.

It's hard to say how one accumulates so much "stuff" both at the house and the office. It takes so much so much time to sort through everything. Well after everything was packed we rented a truck trailer from the fine folks at ABF. Here is the kicker. We packed an office and two and a half households on the trailer ourselves...yes I said ourselves. It just so happened that the four days it took to pack were some of the hottest days on record in Southern California. One day it topped out at 113. Needless to say we were sunburned and popping motrine every hour or so.

After everything was packed, the trailer, with all the guys earthly belongings headed to Tennessee. After 3 full days of driving, Jeff finally arrived back home in Nashville with the Quartets rig. Joel had driven as well but had stopped off in Texas to pick up a few items. Don flew in the day before the trailer arrived and the unpacking was to begin and Russell was in California getting married. So as you can see we have been busy but we are proud to be moved and call Portland, Tennessee our new headquarters.

Just in case you are wondering, it took about 4 hours to get the trailer unloaded!! makes me tired just thinking about it all.

Please be sure to visit our booth at the NQC. We'd love to meet you. Next month we hit the old concert trail again so keep your eyes on our schedule. You can do this by logging onto http://www.theheralds.org. We look forward to seeing you down the road.

Gold City - Aug 06

I just wanted to take a moment to catch you up with all that is going on with Gold City. As usual, we have been very busy; on the road and in the studio. We have just returned from a trip to the Northwest and to Canada. We had a great time and made a lot of new friends. One family that was especially kind to us was the Milne's, from Montana. We had a day off during our trip, and they met us at Flathead Lake, in Elmo, Montana, with elk stew, a great western treat. Thank y'all for a great day!!

More from the trip out west...

During our trip, we spent a day in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Not long after arriving in town, several of the guys had already bought cowboy hats and boots. The rest of the day, Aaron seemed to have a little chip on his shoulder. As many of you know, Aaron is a "card carrying"? Cherokee Indian. If you haven't already, check out the photo album Cowboy Up.

It's Almost Here

Yesterday we were in the studio all day, finishing the tracks for our new album. I believe this will be one of our best efforts yet. We have been blessed with incredible songs, and there is a fresh excitement, among all the guys. We have just signed with a new record label, New Haven Records, and they are treating us like kings. Start watching for this, yet to be named, album in early September. Y'all hold on, this is gonna be a goodern!

"The City"

As many of you know, we have now graduated into the 21st century and have our very own Myspace page. A lot of our friends stop by regularly and leave us comments. Recently, we have been made aware a few of our friends on there have been referring to us as "The City."? Just like the good Baptists a lot of us are, word has spread among our ranks. Now, it seems everywhere we go, people are calling us "The City."? So, if you hear "The City"? is coming to town, be sure to stop by and pay us a visit.

NQC 2006

If you haven't already done so, there's still time to make plans to attend the 2006 National Quartet Convention. If you love Gospel Music, Louisville, Kentucky, is the place to be September 11th-16th. Gold City will be performing Monday, Friday, and Saturday nights. Be sure to stop by our booth and say hello. This will also be a great time to pick up our new CD.

I told Tim that we were meeting my nephew, Jeremy, in Nashville this past Saturday to take him our van. He was going to be a sweetie and install new axles and CV boots – for free I might add – for his dear “Aunt Salse.” Tim said “okay” and went to the parts store, coming home with two boxes containing the axles to do the job. Needing to be at River of Life in Smyrna in the afternoon for a sound check since we were singing the Fan Festival that night, I knew we would have to get moving Saturday morning to take the van. Tim left early to go over to his Mom’s house for a visit. Around 1:30, I realized that we had almost run out of time to take the van to Nashville and get back for a 3:00 PM sound check, so I called to see what he wanted to do. As many of you women might guess, my husband “said” he never heard me tell him about meeting my nephew. Feeling like the prophet Jeremiah, I gave him the “you never listen” speech one more time and went to Nashville without him.

For the past couple of weeks, I have been studying the book of Jeremiah and for the first time the other day, something really stood out. I always pictured Jeremiah as a young man, but in Chapter 25, it says that Jeremiah had been warning the people for twenty-three years – funny… that’s how long Tim and I will be married this coming March. I wonder if Jeremiah felt as old and tired as I do at times…

Were the people listening? Of course not! We all know the nation of Israel was not listening to Jeremiah. I bet if I had told Tim I had grilled steaks, he would have heard me just fine! The people didn’t listen to Jeremiah because he wasn’t telling them what they wanted to hear. They wanted peace, so that was the message they believed. Peace with no responsibility – a good time without obeying God. He was speaking to them through the prophet, but they were just not going to listen.

Are we listening to God – I mean are we really listening? Joyce Martin recorded a song on her solo album that I absolutely love! The lyric goes like this, “I want to live so that a Whisper is Enough.” Can you imagine what this world would be like if Christians lived their lives in a way that when God simply whispers, we are close enough to Him to hear? Can you imagine what the Gospel music industry would be like if everyone lived that way?! Not everyone does though. Those who fail to listen to God – for whatever reason – eventually end up captive to the choices they make, often hurting others in the process.

I want to listen to God and see Him work His perfect will in my life. I want to make the right choices when it comes to my family, to ministry, choosing friends… every decision is important and will have a lasting affect on our lives.
Like our latest single – “It’s a Sure Thing” – says,
“You don’t have to look very far in my past
to see that I’ve wasted time on some things that won’t last,
I’m not proud of some of the choices I’ve made.
But my mind’s made up now and I’m on the right track
I’ve put my hand to the plow and I’m not looking back
The cross made the way the price has been paid
IT’S A SURE THING!

“God, please stay close enough to me and keep me close enough to You so that a Whisper is Enough.”

till next time…
Sally

The McRaes - Aug 06

Hello SoGospel Readers,

Wow! Can you believe August is already here? Summer is one of the busiest times of the year for us and many others. This summer has brought a bit of a change, but a good change, in our extended family. Our cousin, Leah Bayne has been active in missions for several years, working with the BSU (Baptist Student Union). Among many national mission trips, she spent the summer of 2003 in South Africa; a trip that changed her life. Last fall she had the opportunity to visit Chile. She's always felt the Lord's calling for her life would be in missions and last year's trip confirmed exactly where. She's been given the opportunity to teach missionary's children at the Santiago Christian Academy - Santiago, Chile for a year. July 23rd we said goodbye and we were sad to see Leah go, but we know that this is God's will for her. Please keep Leah in your thoughts and prayers. If you'd like to send a word of encouragement to her please feel free. Leah's e-mail address is:

For many of us there are times we feel that we're going in the right direction but can't understand why we haven't already made it to our destination. Patience is a hard thing to learn. For Leah, the years she spent traveling on mission trips, still wondering what the Lord had planned for her life, weren't wasted years. Those years were simply preparing her for where she is now; and where she is now is just preparation for what's ahead. The same is true for all of us. Don't think of where you are now as a stand-still or "dead time" in your life. I believe everyday prepares you for tomorrow. Every trial you go through is preparation for the blessings and valleys ahead. The things I go through now, I never would have had the strength to face if the Lord hadn't taken me through hard times in the past. So remember that everyday is important. It's just another day of God preparing the way.

God Bless,

Our First Mission’s TRIP!

Well, Welcome to August...My goodness, how TIME flies! We are getting ready for a lot of excitement this month. We are finishing up our new project “Live to Love.” We are traveling to brand new states like New Hampshire and Massachusetts...along with lots of other brand new churches and conferences!

The most exciting thing is that we are headed out soon to our very first mission’s trip. We are going to the country of Bolivia with Compassion International. Compassion is amazing and it has truly changed our lives. This organization reaches out to children in need. And they do not just minister to the physical needs but most importantly, they minister to the spiritual needs of these kids and their families. You can learn more about Compassion by clicking on the Compassion link on our website at http://www.hopescall.com

We will be traveling with Claude and Connie Hopper, Ed Leonard, Dottie Leonard Miller, Compassion Rep and dear friend Zane king and his wife, and also with some contemporary artists like Wayne Watson... (WOW, I love his music).

We will land between two very large mountains from what I hear. I was told that it could take some time just to recover from the major force of the landing in the country. I have also been told that people have encountered large anaconda snakes on trips like this in times past. I have been told to bring very few items for my safety. Basically, they said don’t bring anything you want to keep...Yeek...Needless to say, I have been spending alot of time in prayer...LOL!

The best part of our trip is that we will get to meet our sponsored child Ana Maria! She is beautiful and I am so excited to meet her. I am planning to bring her some surprises and also...I am going to bring a gift for her family.

Please keep us in prayer as we get to see Compassion at work first hand. We love this ministry organization and we couldn't be more excited to go on this trip. Pray for our safety and health and the well being of our sweet kids while we are away. It is hard to leave them for 12 days. That is a long time! But I am sure it will go by fast.

The trip itinerary goes something like this...We will fly out of Pennsylvania (we are singing there just before the trip to Bolivia) and into Miami for the long flight to Bolivia and after the trip we will fly back in to Michigan for one date before we head south to Birmingham, AL. After Birmingham we are off to a huge Hurricane relief concert in Louisiana! The governor is coming...We are so excited to get to be a part of that. So that is a crazy 12 days huh? It begins August 18th and we return on August 30th.

God has been so good to us. We have seen over 160 souls trust Christ so far this year and over 150 children sponsored through Compassion!

Please keep us in prayer. We want to LIVE TO LOVE people and most of ALL to LIVE to LOVE and SHARE CHRIST!

Drop us a note or leave us a comment! We would love to hear from you.

Blessings!

August Reflections

WELCOME TO SUMMER! That's easy for me to say sitting in my air-conditioned office with a cold Diet Coke. It's another 100 degree day here in St. Louis. This time of year always conjures up memories of summers past when I was a kid - back when dinosaurs roamed, as my kids say.

Back then summer, especially August, meant a trip to the family reunion and getting to play with cousins I only saw once a year. It meant sweet tea floating a huge block of ice in a washtub and a dipper bobbing in a bucket of cool well water. It was porch swings and neat rows of white-washed trees. It was the snap of the screen door to grandma's back porch that always smelled of cucumbers in vinegar.

Summer meant open-air campmeetings and yellow "bug lights" around the concession stand. It meant meeting new friends to exchange letters with until next summer.

Summer meant "camping" in a quilt-over-the-clothesline tent and "pole vaulting" with mom's clothesline props. Sometimes it meant running to grab clean clothes off the line when a steamy summer day was interrupted by a welcome rainstorm. Summer was swinging as high as you can and playing outside until the lightning bugs arrive to claim the night.

Was it all good? Of course not. But it's funny how our minds selectively gather memories like picking only the loveliest flowers and leaving the dandelions. Oh, I haven't forgotten the bad. There were sweat bee stings and sandburs. There was sunburn and scars from cuts on bare feet. There was little escape from the heat and no air conditioning anywhere - at least nowhere my family ever went. Sleeping was miserable, even with open windows and monstrous window fans.

It's hard to believe that we actually lived that way. It was uncomfortable, but life went on. People went to work, did their household chores, and yes, even went to church. I can remember as a little girl the hot, sticky discomfort of bare little legs on an unpadded wooden pew; but I also remember the safe little alcove between my mom and dad and enjoying the remnants of a breeze from a funeral home fan.

Summer at church meant windows propped open with old songbooks. More than one sermon was punctuated with a bang when a window gave way and slammed shut. One of my fondest memories, however, is walking up the sidewalk toward the church house with my parents as the music wafted up into the night air through the open windows. "Let my life be a light, shining out through the night, let me help struggling ones to the fold; Spreading cheer everywhere, to the sad and the lone. Let my life be a light to some soul." Wow. What a beautiful sound!

This summer as we sit in our air-conditioned, almost hermetically sealed churches, let's remember that the only gospel some people may ever hear is the "song" of testimony that drifts toward them from our lives. Don't close the windows.

Have a Wonderful Summer!
