“Evidence” is a very traditional mixed group. Ellis, Charlotte, Jim, Brenda and Gordon sing their hearts out on their newest album, “Talkin About the Love of God.” Piano is the only accompaniment used on this record, which I found refreshing at the beginning, but as the third or fourth song played I found it to be rather boring. The end result of this gutsy move by “Evidence,” was that every song sounded the same. They sing like a quartet though they are a mixed group, which was interesting to hear. Pitch problems prevented this group from ever really accomplishing a tight sound.

However, I DID enjoy some of the song choices on the project. Hearing the verses to one of my favorite hymns, “Grace Greater Than Our Sin,” was nice, as the chorus is all that is usually recorded. “No One Ever Cared for Me Like Jesus,” is another one of my favorites. “Reach Out to Jesus” was perhaps the best overall sound accomplished by the group on the album. I found myself tapping my toes to the tune “All Aboard.” However, something went very wrong in the mix because the lead part seemed at least half the volume level as the supporting parts.

The packaging on this record WAS quality. I liked the concept of the cover and it was nicely done. The message of the album was no doubt sincere and sung by well meaning people. The reality is that they need to invest in some time with a vocal coach to correct their pitch problems. They have a great message, and a sincere heart which are two vital things to any music ministry. I hope they take the time to develop their talent into something that God can use for His glory.

Sounds like "real" Southern Gospel Music to me. I liked it.
