Southern Sound - One Voice
These guys have some of the best harmony that you will hear from a quartet. So for you quartet lovers out there, this is a must have recording. The interesting part is that Baritone Keith Harris is writing a lot of their material. He has developed a style of writing that would fit well with any era of quartet singing. A great example of this is the very first song on the CD. “Jordan’s Swelling Tide” which has some nice intricate harmony. Lead singer Ben Harris does some mighty fine “Jake Hess” styled singing on “I Told Everybody”. Bass singer, Charles Brantley does some really nice and really low singing on another Keith Harris song, “Some Day”, which is one of those songs that you can sit back and just be blessed listening to. “He’ll Be There” is a splendid ballad featuring Tenor Roger Sweeney. The message of the song is one of encouragement. “Going Up To Heaven Someday” is one of those toe tappers that will get you singing along before you know it. They have pulled out a nice classic in “The Galilean”. The sound is reminiscent of the early Cathedrals. This is just one pretty song. If you don’t watch it, you will have your eyes closed and your hands raised in worship while listening to this cut. You will be wondering HOW, but the name of the song is “Why?” You will be wondering how do they get the harmony that close. This is a nice cut. Showing Keith’s writing skills again, “Go Down To Nineveh” could have been written in the fifties and the Statesmen could have made a hit recording this one. Just my opinion, but I think this w9ould be a good radio release. Other songs include “I’m Coming Home”, “Wealthy fellow”, and “This Is The Day” Reader Comments

I think Southern Sound is a great quartet, because they are staying true to the roots of quartet music. I don't know about that Ben Harris guy though.....he he..just kidding.
